13 Oct Halyard Supplies Custom Exhaust To Classic Nelson 42
We were recently contacted by Jonathan Napier, the owner of a Nelson 42 undergoing a full refit including replacement of the engines with new bespoke designed exhaust systems. The repower replaces the original Perkins HT6354 engines with Yanmar 6BY 440 HP units.
New engines necessitated new turbo to transom outlet exhaust systems. We initially attended the boat, with the new engines installed, to trial fit the system including risers, sprayheads, silencers and transom outlets. The water-cooled, GRP silencers were designed to suit the vessel so they could be installed under the aft deck with suitable hose runs.
The systems were then completed in our manufacturing sites with soft cuffed “HalFlex” hose with the dry risers finished off with our grey silicone thermal jackets. In addition, the engine compartment was insulated by Jonathan with Halyard “Maritex” sound insulation.
Once the refit is completed Jonathan is hoping to have the fastest Nelson on the water. It certainly will be one of the most comfortable onboard with minimal engine and exhaust noise.
Jonathan comments: “Having taken advantage of Halyard’s competitive pricing and technical expertise on my Nelson project with an agreement for full exhaust system and all sound-proofing, I am extremely pleased with the outcome. This has been a revelation in terms of technical knowledge and back up. We started with an initial consultation on the boat with options and decisions made. technical drawings arrived and were confirmed. This was followed by the trial fit by one of the Halyard engineers.
This whole input has been extremely competitive and with the absence of any finger sucking guesswork.
I would strongly recommend talking to Halyard if you are considering their exhaust systems and other products”.
