Halyard wins Wavestream Environmental Award Distributor of the Year 2009
Halyard Ltd, Europe’s leading manufacturer of marine exhaust systems, has won the first ever Wavestream Environmental Award for Distributor of the Year at this year’s Southampton Boat Show.
The award was presented to Halyard by Paul Gullett from Wave International, in recognition of the company’s strong sales growth throughout 2009 and its outstanding focus and commitment to Wave International’s flagship product - the Wavestream bilge filtration system for oil removal. Halyard has enjoyed a successful relationship with Wave International and has been the UK sole distributor of the Wavestream bilge filter for the past eight years.
Wavestream bilge filters have been identified as a cost effective and environmentally friendly way for leisure and commercial boat owners to prevent oily bilge water from being discharged overboard. The Wavestream bilge filter is suitable for any size or type of vessel, and has been awarded the stringent Lloyd’s Register Type Approval. The Wavestream is a cylindrical cartridge filter that fits into the line between the bilge pump and the through hull outlet. The actual cartridge uses a patented technology that attracts the oil content of the bilge water to bond to the filter element. A saturated filter can be easily replaced in minutes and they are so effective that they will absorb twice their own weight in oil. The used cartridges can be disposed of in the same way as other oily waste, such as designated bins or by incineration.
James Grazebrook, Managing Director at Halyard says, “We’re delighted to receive the award! Wavestream has been a huge eight year commitment for Halyard. The quality of the product and its long term success were never in doubt, but it has taken years of effort to convince the marine world that oil must be filtered out of bilge water. The technical support we have had from Wave International has been outstanding. As more and more major yards standardise on this outstanding product we are beginning to see the reward for a lot of hard work.”
Paul Gullet from Wave International says, “Wave International has now been in business for ten years, producing and promoting the Wavestream bilge filters. For eight of those Halyard Marine has been the UK distributor. They have ably assisted with the ongoing product and market development globally. Halyard’s sales promotion, advertising strategy and tireless team effort has made Wavestream the foremost bilge filter system. We’re really proud to give them this award.”
Halyard was founded in 1980 and has four sites along the south coast in Salisbury, Ferndown, Hillsea and Horndean. It is the only company in the world able to manufacture an entire exhaust solution from “turbo to transom” in-house, and with 70 employees based across the four sites, service and support starts from the initial designs through to assistance during manufacture and installation, right through to final sea trials. Throughout any project the company’s integrated 3D CAD technology enables fast and accurate document and design exchange and delivery, anywhere in the world, to ensure the project is fully documented and recorded.
