Halyard brings silent speed to Norwegian waters
Halyard Marine Ltd, a leader in the design and manufacture of marine engine exhaust silencing solutions, is helping to achieve low noise levels on Tideekspress – a 33m passenger catamaran, built by Norwegian firm, Oma Baatbyggeri.
Oma Baatbyggeri is based on the West coast of Norway and has used Halyard’s exhaust systems on several of its vessels. The company specialises in the building of high speed aluminium catamarans, and Tideekspress is no exception. Standing at 33m, with the capacity to transport up to 300 passengers, she has been designed using four 810kW engines and can travel at a speed of 38 knots.
As with any passenger vessel, comfort on board is paramount. By installing Halyard’s custom designed exhaust systems onto each of Tideekspress’ four engines, Oma Baatbyggeri has been able to increase passenger and crew contentment, by significantly reducing engine noise and internal reverberation - renowned for causing sea sickness and discomfort at sea.
Tideekspress has been fitted with Halyard’s 316 stainless steel Siamese dry exhaust risers with compensators. Each riser has a stainless steel spray head. The spray heads are connected to dual chamber silencers, and the silencers are then connected to the hull outlet using silicone bellows and clamps. The complete wet part of the system is 305mm in diameter.
Halyard is the only company in the World able to manufacture an entire exhaust solution from “turbo to transom” in-house. Service and support starts from the initial designs through to assistance during manufacture and installation, right through to final sea trials. Throughout any project the company’s integrated 3D CAD technology enables fast and accurate document and design exchange and delivery, anywhere in the world, to ensure the project is fully documented and recorded.
Johannes Nesse from Oma says, “We decided on Halyard for the exhaust, because the company has a great reputation, and we know from our previous experience just how good and reliable its range of products is. We have obtained exceptionally low levels of noise both onboard and to the vessel’s surroundings with this system”
James Grazebrook, Managing Director at Halyard says, “We are delighted that Oma Baatbyggeri continues to choose Halyard’s exhaust systems for its vessels. We pride ourselves on the efficiency and reliability of our products, so it is great to see that we have been chosen for these qualities.”
