Halyard has high hopes for cleaner seas
Wavestream Bilge Filters receive official Recommended For Use (RFU) Approval
As the 2010 Southampton Boat Show approaches, Halyard Marine Ltd is pleased to announce that Wavestream bilge filters are to be officially Recommended For Use (RFU), in all boats built to the Recreational Craft Directive (RCD). Distributed by Halyard in the UK, Wavestream is a filter system that removes oil from bilge water, ensuring only clear water is discharged overboard.
The prestigious recognition comes just six months after the renowned bilge filters received official RCD Approval from the RCD’s governing body - the Regional Sectoral Group (RSG).
Wavestream bilge filters have been identified as a cost effective and environmentally friendly way for leisure and commercial boat owners to prevent oily bilge water from being discharged overboard. In a move to protect the effect of oil and diesel on the environment, anyone pumping oily water out of a bilge is now in breach of RCD regulations throughout the EU, and even small quantities discharged into the water can carry severe penalties for boaters.
In 2001, Wavestream achieved Lloyd’s Type Approval for its complete range of leisure and commercial marine products. This was followed in 2005 by the Boat Safety Scheme (BSS) including Wavestream bilge filters capable of a 5ppm discharge level in its pollution prevention section. With its new RCD and RFU approvals, the Wavestream bilge filter is set to become an essential item for all boat owners.
James Grazebrook, Managing Director at Halyard says: “I’m extremely proud of Wavestream’s new RFU approval. The Recreational Craft Directive states that all craft should be constructed to prevent the accidental discharge of pollutants overboard, and the Wavestream bilge filter provides an inexpensive and effective solution to ensure all boaters can comply with the directive, effectively helping to reduce the volume of contaminated waters discharged into the sea.”
Costing from as little as £81.20 plus VAT, all visitors to the 2010 Southampton Boat Show will be able to purchase the Wavestream from Halyard’s stand located at F036, where the company’s technical team will be on hand to offer expert advice and information about the Wavestream bilge filter and its compliance to the RCD.
